Old Boots left this review about The Head of Steam

Previously Spencers, a dodgy pub that only opened for Leeds home games it is a vastly better pub since Camerons took it on under their Head of Steam brand. Although it serves 8 cask beers in good condition another major attraction is the range of Belgian beers on draught including occasionally Straffe Hendrick Quad; Delerium Tremens and a Chouffe are usually on as well as a lesser Straffe Hendrick, a variety of interesting kegs both UK and worldwide are available . Do not confuse this with a pubco pub selling Fosters, Carlsberg, Madri and other assorted shite, it is not. Not much to add to previous descriptions, the rear has raised areas with a variety of seating options, toilets and further seating upstairs. Decor is European beer adverts, arty and old photos.

Situated down below the station along the dingy Mill Hill, this curved building looks better from the outside than within.Normally the Head of Steam chain inhabits large modern glass and metal edifices but this one has been squeezed into an old building .It's noisy and hectic with sections away from the cramped central bar,at least the handpumps are nearest to the front entrance.
On my trip the ale choice was Brew York Calmer Chameleon,Kirkstall Pale,Cameron Motorhead Road Crew and Strongarm,Ilkley Blonde,Wilde Child Intricate Certainty,Black Sheep Burrow's Blonde and TT Boltmaker. There is a vast array of kegs if that's your thing,it was popular with a younger crowd. I suppose that a wide ale choice of mainly local brewers is credible but with so many low strength pales and Cameron beers not to my taste I felt the inclusion in the 2024 difficult to justify when there are finer real ale pubs a mere spit away. I will drift past next time.

Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Head of Steam

One of two branches of Head of Steam in Leeds City Centre, this was a return visit for me on Saturday evening.

There is a central bar with seating areas either side, opening up to a slightly more spacious area at the rear of the bar. Toilets are upstairs.

Customers were crowded around the bar, making selection difficult. This is something we haven't had to contend with for a while! Timothy Taylor Boltmaker is the regular beer. Guests were Saltaire Cascade, Rooster's Yankee & London Thunder, Brass Castle Session IPA & Ilkley Lotus. The cider was Lilley's Pineapple Cider.

Still a reliable stop close to the station.
