Old fashioned pub on the outside, double fronted with a side extension, inside it’s the wide open spaces. The two front rooms and the side extension form the cross of a T, with an L shaped counter running back down the T. Floored in hard wearing carpet and large composite tiles, the walls are cream with tongue and groove and some square panelling. There’s a few big screens. Usual national kegs on a couple of T-bars and solos, three pulls offered Leeds Pale (ok), Theakstons best or Lightfoot. A former landlord was awarded the VC in World War One and a small display commemorates this.

Owned by a division of Heineken, this pub has received a major makeover which can best be described as unsympathetic, with a strange mixture of modern styles, dull coloured paintwork. lots of high stool tables etc. Perhaps it comes into its own in the evenings, but at lunchtime was totally empty, especially compared to other pubs nearby. Inside, there is a large open plan bar area extending back some way, with a couple of seating areas to the front and a games room off to one side. Two draft ales from Theakstons available at time of visit, with a third pump out of use, and beer condition seemed fair. No-one seemed to be taking advantage of the "& kitchen". Car park and outdoor area at rear.
