Large open plan pub, one long space running left to right with a former front room up a step to the right providing a more cosy space. To the left up a step is another smaller space with a pool table. Plenty of screens on sport and there’s a clutch of machines, piped music is a given I suppose. A comprehensive range of national kegs provide the drinks. Very much a locals pub, it has few remaining older features, although some of the furniture started out in the 19th C.

The Malt Shovel is a decent sized pub that is situated just off the main shopping street.
Once inside there is an oblongish shaped room with the bar facing, the room is carpeted and has comfy bench seating and normal tables and chairs, there is a slight raised area to the front right which has normal tables and chairs, there is a pool table to the front left which is also on a raised area.
There are no real ales on the bar,i had a drink of John Smiths smooth crap which was crap, the other keg bitters were Ruddles best and GK IPA,both off.
The pub does cheap food, background music was playing.
The pub was very busy on my early Saturday evening visit.
