The outside has been tarted-up significantly and does look really good. Inside was similar to my (admittedly hazy) memory of 11 years previous, fairly traditional in feel and the atmosphere was a bit less raucous than some other outlets in town that evening. Notes getting sparse by this stage, I had a Lock and Load by BOA Brewing, Untappd with the comment “Fruity!” so let’s say that’s an NBSS 3.5 at least.

November 2014
Interior of dark wood panelling. A number of old pumpclips on the walls as well as old footy programme covers framed on the walls (is the landlord a Norwich fan?). Upright piano spotted. Decent atmosphere inside, a good bit of banter between the regulars. Large rear garden but it was too dark to go exploring. Quiz n’ pizza night advertised which would certainly get my custom if I were local. Eight pumps, with seven ales and a cider (Thatchers Heritage) though a number of the ales were fairly unimaginative (eg Caledonian Deuchars IPA and Autumn Red, London Pride – an old S&N pub?). Anyway the choice for me was between Butcombe Gold and Kinvers Edge, plumped for a half of the latter and was rewarded with a good pint, served by a friendly barman. Cobs and pork pies normally available but they’d run out, sadly (end of Sunday and all that) but I was told that there is a ‘bring your own grub’ policy and that they’ll provide cutlery and crockery. A nice place and one I’d happily do again. Rated 8

Ye Olde Seven Stars is Kidderminster’s oldest pub so I wasn’t surprised wooden flooring and wood panelled walls throughout. The entrance opens into a small area with a short serving counter to the left and seating across the front windows opposite a large fireplace and adjacent steps down to the main bar area towards the rear. In here to the left there’s an L-shaped serving counter that faces rearwards towards an L-shaped area with a mix of furniture and a piano. The gents are located in an outhouse out back where there’s also a comfortable little outdoor seating area. I counted seven hand pumps on the counter, three of which were in use drawing Wye Valley’s HPA and Butty Bach alongside Howden’s Golden Glow. A decent pint and very friendly service means that I will revisit when next in Kidderminster.

Good traditional boozer in the town centre. Friendly service. 2 beers on including a decent Hobsons Town Crier. Well worth a visit.
