I found the welcome warm and friendly, good start. I ordered one of the specials of the day, an 8oz steak, with chips, peas, and onion rings. Unfortunately, the steak was not cooked as ordered, medium to well done,it was totally cooked, and the chips were unpalatable. Soft and oily, and tasting rancid of what seemed like old, burnt cooking oil. The chef did not apologise to me after having pointed these things out to him,but gave me a very disgruntled look, and walked away. I most definately will not be eating there again.Shame...nice pub otherwise.

Another old coaching inn in Highworth town centre, the Saracen's head is a listed building with its original entrance arch and ruts from carriages in the floor. Two bars with open fires and bare boards serve food and beer from Arkell's Brewery and some guests. There were 8 gravity fed casks behind the bar. I had a pint of Moonlight which was in prime condition. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, and the locals very friendly. Food was OK, reasonabel value for money and in generous portions. This is a definite for inclusion in a town crawl and a pub to which I would willingly return.

The Saracens Head is a large old pub in the centre of Highworth.
Once inside i went in the lounge which was wood panelled and also had a beamed ceiling this made the room seem quite cosy as well as comfortable.
This is an Arkells tied house and there were two real ales on the bar i had a drink of Arkells 3B which was served from a barrel behind the bar and this was a very nice drink the other beer was Arkells 2B.
I thought this was a really nice pub and i was quite happy having a drink in here.
