An historic high street pub, now trading as a trendy gastro with décor and signage to match. The main long bar is crowded and laid out almost exclusively for diners, while a smaller dining room at the back is also crowded, making navigation to the toilets a chore. Food is freshly cooked but expensive, while portions are small and they scrimp on the wine. There was background music playing, unobtrusive but pointless and irritating. The young waitresses are cheerful, if over-worked, while the landlady was welcoming. Only one ale on draft, Loose Cannon's Abingdon Bridge, which was in excellent condition. I wouldn't include in a crawl, but it's fine for a group meal if you don't mind paying over the odds. Note that opening hours can vary, and it's closed on Mondays.

My wife and I visited the Crown today with some friends for Sunday lunch. It was a delightful experience, the food was excellent and we were made most welcome by mine hosts Wendy and Brian and their son Phil who is also the chef. Although they were busy they found time to exchange pleasantries with all their customers. We will certainly be revisiting this very nice establishment to enjoy more of their good company and fine food.
