The Wheatsheaf is a great local pub where you can guarantee a decent pint, good food and a warm welcome. It's on the A30 just outside the town, and it's easy to miss as the original entrance is closed and you have to enter through the carpark - a sign of the times, maybe. It's an 18th Century pub which was originally associated with the Wilton carpet factory next door and was owned by Matthews Brewery of Gillingham. The pub has been modernised and doesn't look very traditional. Two ales on - the house beer, Wheatsheaf (brewed by Woolton Coors) and Doombar, both superbly kept and served at the right temperature. The landlord is extremely knowledgeable, chatty and keen. A must for a town crawl, great for lunch or evening meal and very handy as a bolthole near the Wilton Shopping Outlet.
