Interesting little pub. Still has Tetley bitter and Timothy Taylor Landlord on. The Landlord was a good pint. We had a great time sat in the small front bar singing along with the Jukebox (with enthusiastic backing from the very entertaining barmaid!) Well worth a visit and I'd happily call again.

This pub had been closed, I believe, for some time prior to opening under new management in 2016. I was glad that it had reopened, because it's on Camra's list of regionally important interiors, a "corridor-centered pub which evolved out of vernacular stone cottages". Some substantial alterations by Tetleys (to the servery and front windows) disqualify it from the national inventory, but it's still a delightful pub and a pleasure to sit here for the duration of a half of Timothy Taylor Landlord. The other beer was the exiled Tetleys Bitter, which I only drink under duress since the closure of the Leeds brewery. Just the two beers, but my Landlord was in good nick. Well worth the walk from Westgate station.

First things first - yes, the Redoubt is a wonderful old pub with four individual drinking rooms clad in lovely old dark wood which makes for a quite stunning interior. Elsewhere, there are plenty of aged sporting photos of the pub's Sunday League team from the 80's, plus a jukebox and two TV's.
However it was badly let down by the beer - 3 were on (Tetley Mild, Tetley Bitter and Tim Taylor Landlord), perhaps not an awe-inspiring line-up but solid enough I thought. I tried both the Mild (on the turn) and Landlord (lifeless). At £2.80 a pint for the Landlord as well I wasn't impressed. A long way from Good Beer Guide standard. Clearly no quality control going on here.
Worth a look for the interior but on this evidence I'd stick to something bottled whilst you're in there. I really wanted to like this place too, shame.
