I liked this one, though it really is quite a basic pub, a decent local boozer tucked away down a lane by the canal. Very green interior with one room hosting a band setting up to play. Even on a cold February night, most customers were sat outside- bet it’s a very popular spot in summer. The Barnsley Bitter was quite enjoyable.

Odd place tucked away down an unpromising road. Two basic and fairly grim and silent rooms with a faint whiff of damp and a generally downbeat atmosphere. Large uninspiring patio garden with a TARDIS in it for reasons unknown. Inexplicable toilet arrangements, three unisex and a gents...so ladies will just have to suffer the chances of getting a pissy seat?? Live music advertised. Five cask over six pumps with an interesting range. My Elland 1872 was in pretty good shape (NBSS 3.5) served by a lass who looked like she'd been beamed down from Bladerunner. Also some cider and an interesting range of keg. Didn't take to the place at all, but the cask is clearly good.

After a prolonged period of uncertainty, the Puzzle Hall Inn recently reopened as a community owned pub. Initial reports on social media have been praising the beer quality. Great news for the Sowerby real ale scene.
