This is a superb multiroomed pub, seemingly extended from an original smaller building and still retaining the remains of a jug and bottle counter in the entrance lobby. The room to the left of this is a snug, and to the right two rooms (or possibly three) have been knocked into one. All of the tables here were taken, so I took my beer through to the snug, which I had to myself - this is a very nice room. It's such a shame that the pub's exterior has been completely spoilt by being painted grey. I really can't understand why this has become fashionable, as it is so unattractive.

There were four hand pumps on the bar: Doom Bar standing on its own to the right, and a group of three on the left (see photo). I initially went for the Doom Bar, but this proved to be bottom-of-the-barrel, so I changed to the house beer, which I would guess was simply Theakstons Lightfoot with a different pump clip. This seemed to be a well run and popular pub, and serving the only remaining real ale in Normanton makes it a must-visit if you find yourself here. Such a pity about the grey paint though.

Pub has reopened and has an excellent curry night on thursday. They also play a great selection of music and have regular karaoke

Some good news for a change NOW OPEN.
Pubs has been refurbished and ois up and running again.
2 bars with Sky Sports available and a good price food offering.
Black Sheep and Tetleys on hand pull.
Off road car parking at front of building and a garden area.
