A large pub situated on a triangular road junction, with several opened out rooms around a central bar. The notable feature is the large bow window that faces the traffic coming up the hill from Denby Dale, and the hand pumps on the bar face this way too. Six pumps but only three ales available on our visit, two of them doubled up. These were fairly standard offerings for these parts: Tetleys, Black Sheep and Copper Dragon, though we were offered a taste of the forthcoming attraction from stillage, but this turned out to be John Smiths Bitter, so we regretfully declined. We enjoyed it here, the beer being in good condition and the welcome and atmosphere both very friendly, and this would certainly be one to include if (like us) you were doing a circuit of the local villages, but not one to go out of the way for.
