Well hidden in an untarmacked back road near the busy traffic lights at the bottom of Lockwood Scar, this pub is listed by Camra as one of special regional interest, with its 1927 reconstruction having been saved by the licensee's intervention from being "opened out" in 2006. The bar counter was the main focus for my interest, with its eight hand pumps (see photos - Tetleys and Deception doubled up); the notable lack of anyone to serve being explained by the changing of the Tetleys Bitter barrel for a new one. The three locals ahead of me at the bar were all on Tetleys, so I had the same myself and it was in very good condition, though not a patch on the beer when it was brewed in Leeds of course. I'll be back another time to check out the remaining features of that 1927 refurb.

Friendly local with top quality cask beers including at least two regular guest beers. Friendly atmosphere, occasional entertainment very good - shame I can't get there more often
