Not my first visit here, as I've been to Huddersfield many times, for Luton Town games, or Leeds Rhinos, as well as just pub visits. In recent years I've tended to view the Kings Head as the better pub of the two in the station buildings. An unusual notice just inside the front door offers beer at 25% off on January days that included this one - there's a regular Sunday offer throughout the year - so my £4.80 pint of Kirkstall Leeds Pale was only £3.60. It tasted a little sharp to me, though didn't smell at all off, and was crystal clear; could the recipe have changed? There are 14 hand pumps, with 11 beers on at this time. All are from Northern breweries, mostly Yorkshire I've got no problem about calling in here, but in the unlikely event of only having time for one station pub, I would go for the other one.

My first visit for a very long time and it is still a very worthwhile place, albeit perhaps a little more unkempt than days of old. I was intrigued that they separate keg and cask bars - I wonder if the clientele is noticeably different! Anyway there were 8 ales on, including 2 milds, and they were all what I would describe as proper beer-flavoured beers with no hints of kumquats or gooseberries.

Two great drinking venues at the station - I wonder how many people miss their train for the next one.
Seating outside and the square is lovely. Broad choice, as you would expect, and I went for a Magic Rock Canon Ball on cask (not noticed at the tap room when visiting earlier) and a La Trappe Tripel on Keg.
Lovely town, Huddersfield. First visit and I was impressed.
