Well described by previous reviewers and the beers on offer can be seen in my photos. It was too early in the day for Old Peculier, so I went for the Oakham Citra (NBSS 4). Excellent pub and a fair reward for the 18 minute walk from the railway station.

We took the half hourly bus from Halifax bus station which drops you outside. We were 10 mins early and the landlady didn't mind us sitting in the front patio. At 12 noon the landlady invited us in, six handpumps to peruse, serving Saltaire Blonde, Pennine Millie George and Heartland Dark Amber, Ossett White Rat, Oakham & Ossett collaboration Wanted, and Black Sheep.
The beer quality was excellent and they poured some beer off the line before serving us, always a good practice. Friendly locals, good community pub well worth a visit. I loved the flagstone floor.

Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Red Rooster

After a rather frustrating afternoon finding a couple of pubs closed that I'd expected to be open, the Red Rooster was my second stop on a West Yorkshire crawl, following the Marsh Liberal Club.

The Red Rooster sits in an unassuming location on a corner of the road in a bit of a dip. It is opposite a trading estate and nextdoor to some kind of car dealership, all of which makes parking a little tricky if you arrive by car.

Situated up a few steps from the road, there is a quaint outdoor drinking area to the front, whilst the interior has a number of different secluded areas. Although it looks as if it may have been opened up somewhat from its original layout. The bar is in front of you as you enter and currently has 6 handpulls, with the claim to always have a dark beer on and a couple of bitters. The claim was true for my visit, with the selection being Copper Dragon Black Gold, Timothy Taylor Boltmaker & Knowle Spring, Abbeydale Deception, Oakham Citra & Darkland Wolfenbrau. The Citra seems to be a regular.

The barmaid was friendly and there were also a handful of other customers in on my mid-Thursday afternoon visit. My Black Gold was a nice enough mild. It was certainly pleasing to find a dark beer.
