I was a regular here and found to my disappointment that it is now closed.One of the last remaining trad pubs in the city centre and a real shame its closed.I have found out that there were serious issues with the last tenants.So its not smith being smith this time round……..still its shut and given state of city centre I can’t see it reopening anytime soon.Previous tenants had started using snug as a private room for their own use and the attitude of younger staff left a lot to be desired.Prior to the last tenants it was well run but as they retired new lot took over and it was downhill all the way,

Down-to-earth Sam's with a real locals feel, plenty of shite being chuntered at the bar with accompanying laughs. Classic heritage interior. Enter to a lovely curved wood bar area with three rooms spurring off; two discrete snugs and a larger oblong room down a couple of steps. Salmon, maroon and cream is the colour scheme of choice alongside the usual comfy fittings. Fairly limited drinks selection by Sams' standards though cask OBB was on and pretty decent (NBSS 3.5). Also the lesser-spotted Light Mild on keg. Enjoyed my 30 minutes here. 7.5

We popped in here on a Tuesday evening to find this pub full to the hilt. The pub had a jovial atmosphere and the majority of the customers were of an older age. I found the traditional interior to be quite inviting, especially with a lit coal fire and found the small snug on the left of entrance a good spot.
