A well worn looking boozer with a robust and earthy interior. There are a whopping thirteen handpumps in all, eight in operation for beer and one for Cider, Old Rosie, the beers were Landlord and Boltmaker from Timothy Taylor, Oakham JHB,Vocation Bread & Butter and Naughty & Nice, Theakston Old Peculiar, Salopian Kashmir and Pictish Mosaic. Despite the number of beers on and only three other punters in early Saturday lunchtime, the Kashmir and Mosaic were in good form. A chatty knowledgeable guy behind the bar helped make this old school pub a winner for me despite the arduous walk all the way from The Corn Dolly, well worth it.

A GBG regular, this is located in the Badlands via a fairly grim walk, serving the local industrial estate judging by the customers. A basic place; three rooms knocked-through with white woodchip wallpaper, brown and snot green colour scheme with bare boards. Quiet pub, with just chat for noise, though my attempts at joining in the conversation were overlooked and I felt like quite the outsider. There’s a basic beer garden over the road in what I assume is the footprint of a now-demolished building. Six or seven cask on over what I think was nine pumps (as some were either side of a pillar) a mix of micros and regional stagers like Tim Taylor, Boltmaker and Theakston OP. Also old Rosie and a couple of unusual kegs. My Little Critters Chameleon was fine (NBSS 3). Was thinking of shoving off after one but saw an OP being poured so had a cheeky half of that (3). Whilst the beer was fine there were too many on I think, neither really sparkled and most of the locals were on lager. It's a fair ale destination but I didn't warm to it as a venue.

In an industrial part of Bradford, this is a traditional basic boozer, very old school and all the better for being so.The apex front door leads to a three section interior with a wooden floor throughout. The first area is square with a wood burner kicking out some good heat. The mid section has most of the bar opposite while the back area has some booth seating.Decoration is deminimus, there are no TV screens, muzak or other modern distractions. The customers were as well worn as the pub,it's welcomes dogs and everyone was friendly.Don't expect fancy food ,I made do with crisps and nuts.
The ale range on my trip was Salopian Charm Assault (NBSS 4),Thornbridge Jaipur,Theakston's Old Peculier,TT Landlord and Boltmaker,Moorhouse Black Cat Reserve,White Rose Original Blonde and a further ale I failed to note.8 real ales on a Wednesday lunchtime was a positive surprise ,and the quality has been recognised by regular GBG entries and CAMRA awards.
Make the effort to get out here if visiting Bradford,it's basic and a throw back to an industrial past which has largely departed.Thankfully this pub has survived,it's wonderful.
