Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Red Lion Inn
Situated just off a roundabout heading north out of town, the Red Lion closes on a Monday and a Tuesday. However, on a Wednesday lunchtime, there wasn't much room to move in the small bar, with a large group of workers enjoying a lunchtime pint. More space was available down some steps in an area used by diners.
4 real ales were on when we arrived. We ordered four halves of a beer I'd not had before. But the beer ran out before the second half could be poured and the first one off was far too cloudy to give us. As such, the remaining choice was Young's Special, Gun Scaramanga & Long Man Rising Giant. The Rising Giant was quite pleasant, but the Scaramanga wasn't in the best of form.

Situated on the outskirts of Shoreham by the old toll bridge, this is a low-ceilinged 16th century building with incredibly low-beamed ceilings, snug drinking areas, wooden booth seating and log fireplace with brasses. Two dining areas either side of the bar (meze ‘four for a tenner’) with outside drinking areas front and back. Five handpumps dispensing a range of microbrewery ales though I don’t recall the quality being particularly brilliant, not enough to stop me heading off to explore elsewhere anyway.

If it is real ale you are after, try the Amsterdam across the road first, then come into the Red Lion. I guarantee you will detect an upturn in quality. It's a very quaint lower bar area and I was obviously lucky with the barman who was able to list the qualities of the various real ales on offer. Also good to eat out in the garden area on a nice day if you stay upwind of the many smokers taking refuge here!.
