Situated close to the suspension bridge but unfortunately tucked around a corner so lacking views, this is a stone faced end of terrace pub that looks like it may have been formed from two, perhaps three houses. Two entrances, one on the front elevation, the other to the side but the interior is one smallish space with the bar central and the room returning either side to form a truncated U-shape. Wood flooring, contemporary decor in cream and dark red, there is a skylight to one end, seating is generally traditional with a large round table in the bay window. Not much in the way of decor, although there is an old photo of the pub when it served Georges Beers, I confess to having never heard of that clearly now defunct brewery. Food is served with specials listed on a chalkboard to the side of the bar. Beers are from Wadworths, four on, 6X, Henry's, Horizon and St George.
It was very quiet on our early Friday evening visit when other nearby pubs were buzzing, no obvious reason why although my pint of Horizon was decidedly average, possibly due to a lack of footfall. The welcome was friendly enough.

Since my previous review, this had been closed, refurbished and re-opened under new management. It’s still got quite a contemporary feel to it with wooden flooring and a mixture of cream and maroon paintwork. A couple of plasma’s were showing the rugby but the volume was down so this wasn’t intrusive and instead there was a decent mix of 80’s music being played although there was also a wall mounted juke box if that’s not your thing.
There was a small menu of just half a dozen dishes along with a few specials on a board by the bar. Prices for main courses ranged from £7.50 to £14 and apparently fresh fish is delivered daily, and the steak is from the US where it’s “wet aged” to make it meltingly tender as I was informed by the friendly landlord. He’s just back from a stint abroad and keen to try and build trade back up following the pub’s recent, slightly chequered, history.
Beers on tap were all from Wadworth’s with their 6X, Henry’s IPA and Horizon. Ciders were Stowford Press and Thatcher’s Gold.
