The Sussex Arms is a Shepherd Neame pub with a central U-shaped serving counter that supports SN keg alongside Cruzcampo, San Miguel and Birra Moretti. There are also four hand pumps, two of which were being used to draw Bishops Finger and Spitfire. There’s seating to the left of the entrance and to the right is a raised area with a pool table. In the right rear is a small lounge area, well I noted a sofa in there. It was busy during a recent Saturday afternoon visit that coincided with the end of an England Six Nations match on televisions throughout. Nobody was really watching it because we were getting spanked, so the screens were muted and the music had been turned up. As I was leaving the friendly governor was walking around the pub taking names for killer pool, a proper local! Yes the décor is basic, and I’m not a fan of SN beers, but I thought it was friendly in here and I’d use it if I was from the area.
