Now a Greene King pub, but the expansive Tudor-style exterior appears largely unchanged. Retains two completely separate bars, with the right-hand one extending further back as an enlarged seating / dining area. Furniture and decor of the modernised traditional type. Also has a good number of wooden tables along the frontage. Disappointingly, just IPA and Doom Bar (curiously priced at £3.04)available from the various handpumps.

This pub was previously several small homes for farm labourers, one of which started brewing ale and eventually applied for a licence to sell it around 1850, he bought up the other buildings and merged them into the pub you see today (the history is framed on the wall in the lounge). The pub has a bit of a split personality in that it has two separate rooms that are very different. On the left of the building is a very traditional public bar with low beams, a bar counter opposite the door, an inglenook fire place on the left with horse brasses, two large flat screen TV’s and a dart board and football table on the right. On the right of the building is a more modern dining lounge with a long L shaped bar counter opposite the door, a fire place with marble surround on the right and three large flat screen TV’s on the walls (one of which was behind the bar). Towards the back of the room is an area designed entirely for dining. Throughout the pub were old photos of the local area and various parts of Wolverhampton and there is a small beer garden behind the pub.

Surprisingly for such a traditional pub (public bar at least) there were no regular ales. Although as mentioned by Soup Dragon there was a very nice Highgate Dark Mild, but sadly only on keg.

A lovely half timber building and a good village pub which is always popular for the two for £9 menu. If only they had a couple of real ales on hand pull I would visit more often. Be prepared as some of the regulars and even the staff give very suspicious looks to visitors especially in the left hand public bar. The Dark Mild is rare in these parts and unfortunately may soon become extinct I believe.

A large detached Punch Tavern’s Two for One pub, which actually appears to be several building that appear to have been turned into one. It is in a mock Tudor style, with beer garden.

The interior consists of a separate bar and a lounge/dining area. The bar is mainly in yellow and has the ceiling and support beams. It has darts, table footy, a poker table and a TV. The lounge/dining area has a separate entrance. The lounge is in half brown and half red walls, with white ceiling and is divided up into little booth seating areas. There was a TV above a marble effect fireplace and a number of animal based and other prints on the walls. A stairway took you into the large dining area, which was rammed with tables, and too be fair, people as well. The décor was cream with white ceiling. The service was fine, the clientele mixed and there was a nice mix of background music at a decent level.

Beer; all tap stuff, no real ale, with a decent keg Highgate MILD.

Another place that I wasn’t really looking forward to going, but turned out to be a better experience than expected. Despite no real ale, there was a good Highgate keg and clearly it is popular for food – too popular for me, being miserable, there were too many in the dining area for me to feel comfy with. Next time – it’s the bar room for me.
