Traditional Marstons pub in the suburbs, nice staff, beer is average/good, relaxed local feel

Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Royal Oak
After an early start to the day, we arrived at this our fourth pub of the day shortly before midday opening. After a short stroll around the local area, we found the pub open a little earlier than the published times with one man and his dog already installed in the small bar area which can be found to the left of the entrance door.
To the right of the entrance door is another small lounge. Further off to the left is a slightly larger modern extension, with a garden beyond that. Scottish football was about to be shown on a couple of TVs in the bar and in the extension.
The barmaid was quite a cheery soul and apologised that she hadn't had chance to put the mulled wine on, as we didn't seem too interested in the bland Marston's beer selection (Banks's Brewdolph, Wychwood Hobgoblin Gold & Marston's Wainwright). I'd had the Brewdolph a week or so before, but decided to risk it again. I wish I hadn't have bothered.
Apart from the friendly welcome, I can't see a particular reason to head here unless I was to move to Tettenhall Wood.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Royal Oak
Refurbished pub retaining its traditional two-bar layout, although the side wall of the compact left-hand one has been opened-out slightly to join with further seating in a small room beyond. Semi-modern furniture and decor in both of these, but the right-hand bar is more traditional. Banks's Sunbeam (£3.20), Cocker Hoop and Wainwright on handpump each side, together with cask Banks's Original and Bitter also available from electric pumps (which could easily be mistaken for keg founts).
