A Black Country Ales house that is the best bet for quality ale if you find yourself in Wombourne. The building looks to be from the 1930'sand the interior is modern and without the charm of many BCA houses but it's a practical layout .Entering from the carpark there is a seating section with bench seating around the periphery and a real fireplace.Around a corner is the main servery with some furniture opposite while beyond the bar is a side section with a very long bench seat and traditional furniture.A few prints on the walls and three flatscreens were showing England v DR Congo.
The star of the show is the ale quality from the guest ales which on our trip were Kinver Old Bush (NBSS Very Good),Sharps Atlantic,Teignmouth Tame Ale and Oakham Hell Bent Coffee Porter (NBSS Very Good).There were the usual BCA regular ales too.
The guv'nor is an engaging fellow and knows how to keep a good pint and there are occasional beer festivals in the garden awning.
When in this village this is route 1 for any pub visit with moving on unlikely.

Quite a transformation since my last visit 7 years ago. Now run by the ever reliable Black Country Ales chain.
Cracking choice of beers on. I tried Teignmouth Brewery Deckhand and Front Row Brewing Prop's Apprentice. Both were excellent.
I can't really fault these BCA pubs. Well worth a visit.

This is a Black Country Ales pub with loads of cask hand pulls. I went for the BFG, which was a decent beer and in good nick.

Cobs are sold for £4, I went for one and it was absolutely huge. Sausage rolls and pork pies also available.

I quite liked this one and would be happy to return. Visit was in September 2025.
