One of my many ticklists is the nearest pubs to the West Midlands Tram system. This came up on Google Maps as closest to The Royal. I wasn't even sure if it was still a pub.

If I was fully down with the kids, and on TikTok, I would have known that this provides the best Jamaican food in Wolverhampton.

On entry - there is a front drinking room - very old school, broken pay phone, horse racing on TV. Separated by the bar is the restaurant bit, where there was more signs of life.

Happy to provide drinks only, there is no cask. The Guinness is incredibly £3.50.

An interesting experience, and with hindsight, I should have traded up from my packet of scratching and gone for it.

A traditional pub for the discerning drinker who likes good company of a refined nature. No frills but none needed. This pub has probably not changed for many years and keeps its charactor.

This is a detached undressed brick pub with scrolled ends to the upper frontage, but sadly this decorative feature is off-set by the protective grills on the lower front windows, i assume to stop bricks being deposited through them by the less friendly natives

The interior has a couple of straight rooms served by a central island serving bar. The more loungey room is at the front of the pub. It is in cream, with red paintwork, a carpet and a white ceiling. Decoration consists of a mirror and a Wolves photo and the TV was showing some film. The back room i couldn't see too weel, it also seemed to be in cream and had a large pull-down screen. There was a pool table, judging by the stack of cues and i think, a dart board. The service was functional at best and several mature locals populated the pub.

Beer; basic tap stuff with Banks's MILD smooth, no real ale. I had a shandy.

No real ale - this is definitely one for the locals.
