Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Bentlands

Imposing brick building, formerly an early 20th-century fake manor house, set back from the road in sizeable grounds now used as a substantial beer garden on one side and the large car park on the other. Nothing very interesting inside, unfortunately, with unremarkable furniture and decor within the various seating / dining areas around the central servery. Having said that, there were a reasonable selection of real ales from the six handpumps: Greene King IPA, Purity Pure UBU, Courage Directors, Holden's Golden Glow, Ludlow Gold and Enville Ale (£3.45).

Update: returned again, this time eating. Have to say I really enjoyed it and the service was very good. There are now 6 hanpulls that included Enville Ale, Holden's Glow and Ludlow Gold (which was very good). A good visit.

July 2010: This is a large detached pub/eatery, early 20th century apparently, a former manor house, which is in mock Jacobean style, in undressed brick with conservatory and large beer garden.

The interior is open plan around the bar and into the conservatory and generally all foody led, with tables and chairs, though there does appear to be a bar area somewhere that I missed with darts and stools! The décor is mainly in cream, yellow, with some wood panel and in part, a fakey yellow stone effect, complete with cracks. There are the modern arty pictures alongside a collection of bottles in holders on the walls, and with soft lighting and soft music I felt it was a place to bring Mrs Soup for dinner rather than come especially for a drink. There were a couple of TVs, which were not on at my visit. The service was fine and the place busy with a mixed clientele – all eating! I didn’t eat, but would like to come back and try, as the Monster says, their ‘famous’ Tex-Mex – meals seemed to be around the £10-11 marker.

Beer; tap stuff with GK IPA, Courage Directors, a decent St Austell Tribute and excellent Enville Ale on handpull.

A far better experience than I thought I was going to have – I do look forward to the day I return with the Soupette for some food and a better sample of the drinks – and to seek out the little bar area!

This is an impressive building with sandstone window frames and large bay windows which is owned by Mitchell’s and Butler’s. There are two entrances from the large car park but If you enter through the arched door there is a medium sized lounge with a square U shaped bar at the back of the room, two fire places back to back on the right, one has a stone surround with a large flat screen TV above, while the other is cast iron with ceramic tiles and a wooden mantle piece. On the left of the room next to the bar counter is a conservatory extension which has double doors that lead out to a very large beer garden. On the right hand wall next to the bar is a second large flat screen TV which usually shows sporting events, décor is modern with walls painted to look like a sandstone villa, also there were several arty abstract paintings dotted around.

Regular ales are Green King IPA, Courage Directors Bitter and St Austell Tribute with a single changing guest beer which on my most recent visit was Enville Ale. The beer always seems to be well kept in my opinion.

A popular local’s pub that specialises in good Mexican food, but they do offer more standard pub food as well. They provide four ales that while not being the most adventurous are not very common in this area. Well worth a look in if you’re in the area and you fancy a change from the locally dominant Banks’s beers, especially in the summer as the beer garden is enormous!
