This is a detached Victorian cottage styled pub adjacent to the canal and locks from which it gets its name. The pub is in plain brick, with blue paintwork around the doors, windows and signage. The most decorative features are the tiles that form the coping on the roof and the etched windows. There is a patio area. There are two rooms, but the one was in darkness, so i went into the main bar, to the right. It is sort of a half and half room; one side being a pool table, with wood floor, TV (Wimbledon) and a nice wood bench seat (showing a bit of pedigree for the place). The other side is carpeted, with red covered perimeter seats. There is a dart board here and a brick fireplace with a burner. The place is in white artex and wood panel. There are no real pictures. The serving bar has an interesting blue tile surface. The service was fine and a few people were in. There was no music. Beer; no real ale, in fact there seemed to be four taps - a lager, bitter, cider and a decent enough M&B MILD. A nice pub, with a few nice features that simply doesn't really sell much in the way of beer. A bit of a sin, considering its location.

Situated by the top lock of the Ryders Green flight, sadly closed on our lunchtime visit but fully functional in the evening.Peering through the window revealed a lack of real ale.
