Reasonable pub in a 'new-trying-to-look-old' building, mainly seeming to attract passing trade and travellers from the hotel opposite through the food offering. Draught ales from Marston's range although only Hobgoblin was on at time of visit.

Recently had new management. Food is on the up and there seems to be regular offers on beers. Good family carvery. Nice food and welcome. Old fashioned pub. Does have events karaoke etc. Think there is something for all ages.
Great location if you are staying at hotel over the road.

The old Horse & Jockey (19th cent) lived on the same site and was demolished in the 1980s and replaced with a new build, which rather looks like an old school building from the 1870s. The pub was later converted into a Taverner's Carvery. Ther eis a beer patio.
The interior is open plan and all based on food. The decor colours are the currently vogue, salmony, beigey, whitey look, with some wood panel and with partitions and a few slightly higher levels. There is an eclectic collection of pictures on the walls and a few brass ornaments. The music was easy listening and at a decent level, the service fine and clientele mixed, including families.
The beer; usual tap tosh, without a MILD. On handpull there was Marston's Pomp & Circumstance, Pedigree and a not too great Hobgoblin, that was a little cold and tasted just begining to turn.
All in all i am not a fan of pubcos, but this wasnt too bad. The building, despite being modern itself gave a good feel that it wasnt a ubiquitous Ember Inn type thing. I just missed the carvery, but would go back and try this place. The second Tav place i had been. The Wych Elm in Burntwood had the same feel.
