The Mitre Has front and rear bars with bare board floor throughout, old wood panelling and lead lined windows that give a feel that this used to be a pub of note. It’s now a high street boozer that had a friendly crowd in on a recent Friday night, but there were a couple of streetwalkers milling about. The serving counter in the front bar supports standard and premium keg as well as three hand pumps, two of which were in operation drawing St Austell’s Tribute and Robinson’s Dizzy Blonde. A pool table is found to the right. The rear bar was hosting some karaoke so I avoided other than to poke my head in to see more fizz on the rear serving counter. I’d pop back in if passing during the day.

Called in to see what ales were available, and found Wadworth 6x, Marstons Wainwrights, and Salopian Shropshire Gold and we enjoyed our Shropshire Gold.

I have many very fond memories of the Mitre as it was a regular haunt of mine back in the late 80's / early 90's. It was very popular with students and a big part of the Alternative / Indie scene. they even used to have bands on in the small room upstairs! Glad to see it is still going and I always try to call in if I am nearby. 3 beers on last week - Bombardier, Amber and Exmoor Gold. The gold was fine. Worth a visit (for old times sake!)
