I found myself here with my 8 year old sun and a friend recently after walking across from the National Trust car park and cafe at Nimmings Road. It was a gloriously sunny Sunday afternoon and we were all in a great mood having enjoyed fine bacon sandwiches at the Nimmings Road cafe. It was our first visit to the area and we were relishing the fact that it was possible to enjoy such beautiful child friendly walking just over 15 minutes from home. However, we were not carrying water and my son was getting thirsty so when we came down Adam's Hill and spotted the Hill Tavern it seemed like the perfect opportunity to enjoy a beer or two in the sun.
Sadly, the experience was a let down.
The bar staff were off hand - not pausing in the conversation between themselves to serve me - and the inside of the pub is characterless. That would not have put me off. The courtyard garden is cosy with some nice plants and on a sunny afternoon it was pleasantly busy with cheerful people. However, my beer was as characterless as the interior and service.
To add insult to injury I was charged for the tap water I asked for along with my beer for my son and my teetotal friend.
We did not stay long - and have since discovered there are nicer pubs near by.

Located at top of road before the walks onto Adams Hill - has suffered from frequent ownership changes.Hopefully the new regime will be more successful.
