Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Malt Shovel
Nearer to Eastcote than Barston really, but serving both settlements no doubt. Anyway, this is quite an upmarket food-led pub having a light refurbished interior with a general seating area to the left of the central counter and larger dining areas off to the right. Also has a smart, two-part patio and grassed beer garden to the rear. Just a hazy Henry's IPA from Wadworth (£3.90) from the three handpumps late on a sunny Monday afternoon.

Another more-restaurant-than-pub affair so common in the semi-rural areas surrounding big cities. This one is all varnished pine inside, making it feel vaguely like Austrian gasthof. Fancy food, you won't get a snack. That FB gives the food times, which are reflected on this page, is telling - it is in fact open all day.
We gave the Sharps Atlantic a miss, judging that at 4pm on a Monday the pump probably hadn't seen use for 24 hours and stuck to eurofizz. At the thick end of nine quid for a pint of the aforementioned, a J2O, and a packet of cheese and onion unaccountably imported from Ireland, you don't come here looking for a bargain. These places go on about the local provenance of their food, yet the fact that there's a brewery (Silhill) four miles away and the crisp capital of the world (Leicester) isn't very far is beyond them.
The garden is lovely, but if it's a proper pub you're looking for, there's a great one just down the road.
