Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Black Boy
Canalside pub (supposedly dating from 1793) run by the Rugby family since 1993. Visited on a Monday, when the staff were being rushed off their feet as everyone seemed to have come out to eat on a fine summer evening, but all was (just about) under control. Plenty of space inside the various seating and dining areas, but understandably the beer garden was the busiest place. Not a great beer selection, but the cask Tribute (£4.50) proved quite acceptable.

Yeah..no idea what it looks like from the canal but we must have passed it hundreds of times along the road, looking at the prominent sign and thinking, hmm, next time, let's press on to The Case Is Altered. Curiosity got to us in the end and you know what happened to the cat. It is indeed a canteen serving up those huge plates of stodge that many deem good home cooking but propel me in the direction of the nearest curry house. Just about all the tatty looking tables (complete with chairs seemingly acquired from a defunct WMC) were reserved at 5PM. They eat early round here. Plus points included a very welcome open fire on a nippy November afternoon and decent Tribute - the other choice was Butty Bach.
Now I expect my verdict would be more positive had we called on a warm sunny afternoon, thus able to enjoy the canalside setting. And I suspect many do: judging by the size of the car park it must be a popular destination for Brummies to enjoy a run out to. However on a nippy November afternoon: press on to the Case, boys, you know it makes sense.

Mr. Fastard paints the picture well below.
Approaching from the canal this is an appealing, traditional boaters pub. Once inside it's a cut price eating barn which has had any charm that it once possessed systematically stripped and it now feels like an atmosphereless canteen.
Beers on were London Pride, a cold but drinkable St Austell Tribute and Wye Valley Butty Bach.
A point for each of the beers on offer.
