Sadly The Old Court House is due to close on Dec 17th. Another in a long line of pubs to be closed down by New River Retail. I would expect some sort of small supermarket to appear.

This is a detached pub and eatery, with a patio area. It is a former courthouse (i assume a manor court), being known in early incarnations as an alehouse as the Earl of Dudley's Courthouse (1834) and Lord Ward's Courthouse (1851). It is certainly known as the Old courthouse by 1882. The building looks Georgian, with a few later alterations. It is a cottage, with smaller side extension and is in white, with pale green woodwork. It has a stepped porch entrance and quoins. A very nice building. The interior however has been gutted in my opinion. All of the old rooms have gone leaving an open plan area that has a dining area to one side (main part) and a sort of lounge on another. It is, in general, in red and white, with patterned carpet. There are a couple of tiled fireplaces in what were the old rooms. There are comfy seats and the odd sofa - bistro art is on the walls. The TV wasn't on and the music was general and soft. The service was fine and a mixed clientele were in, mainly dining. Beer; usual tap stuff, with Jennings Cockerhoop and Marston's Old Empire on handpull - the hoop was fine. For me, a run-of-the-mill place, but a sad end to a nice building.

Recently refurbished, to a nice standard. New menu and food style with two guest ales, but sadly no Bathams. Still worth visiting.
