Impressively Medieval black and white timbered building with lead lined windows up a narrow lane in one of the few parts of town that wasn’t obliterated during the Blitz. Not much to write home about inside, unsympathetic modernisation bar some aged wood supports. Two rooms, with the servery at the far end. GBG listed. My first choice was obviously iffy, the grumpy barmaid retorted "I'M NOT TAKING IT OFF!” loud enough for the entire pub to hear. The replacement Osset was much better (NBSS 3.5) but the stay felt a bit sour and we shoved-off fairly swiftly.

Missed by the Luftwaffe, this is a fine medeival building from the outside very close to a large 'spoons. The windows are all leaded lattice but the interior is plane with some original features such as a central wood burner and low beams but I guess a lot has been lost in refurbs. The furniture is traditional with a seating area around the front windows,a mid ship of a few small tables ,then further seating infront of the rear servery running across the back wall.
The star here is the real ale and it features in the 2026 GBG. Bath Gem and Titanic Plum Porter (NBSS 4.5) are regulars while on my trip guests were Ossett Silver King (NBSS 4.5) and Silhill WOW IPA.Rosie Pig Rhubarb and Old Rosie were the cider options. There is also a CAMRA discount. The service was friendly and very helpful on the curry question and for me this is a must visit in Coventry.I will most certainly be back, the ale conditioning was outstanding.

Building’s dating back to medieval times are like hen’s teeth in Coventry, so I was surprised to say the least when I clapped my eye’s on the Golden Cross Inn as I approached on a recent midweek early evening. On a corner plot this timber framed pub with lead lined stained glass windows was very inviting. Inside different tiled floor areas and the old wooden beam construction show that this was once a building with many very small rooms, but at some point it has been opened up to house a public house. The counter is found at the rear where there was a bit of a wait while some food ordering went on ahead of me. This gave me a chance to note that Premium keg was available alongside Neck Oil and that three of the four hand pumps were in operation drawing Theakston’s Lightfoot, Bath Ales Gem and Titanic’s Plum Porter. There were also a couple of Old Rosie clips advertising availability. I went for the porter which was spot on and politely served. This was a decent spot for a pint and I’d pop in for another if passing.
