Building’s dating back to medieval times are like hen’s teeth in Coventry, so I was surprised to say the least when I clapped my eye’s on the Golden Cross Inn as I approached on a recent midweek early evening. On a corner plot this timber framed pub with lead lined stained glass windows was very inviting. Inside different tiled floor areas and the old wooden beam construction show that this was once a building with many very small rooms, but at some point it has been opened up to house a public house. The counter is found at the rear where there was a bit of a wait while some food ordering went on ahead of me. This gave me a chance to note that Premium keg was available alongside Neck Oil and that three of the four hand pumps were in operation drawing Theakston’s Lightfoot, Bath Ales Gem and Titanic’s Plum Porter. There were also a couple of Old Rosie clips advertising availability. I went for the porter which was spot on and politely served. This was a decent spot for a pint and I’d pop in for another if passing.

Return visit to this historic Coventry city centre pub, not far from the cathedral. It was busy and lively on our Saturday afternoon visit. There appeared to be a mix of shoppers, drinkers and those finishing their lunches.
Bar staff were amenable and had their regular beer Wye Valley HPA, alongside guests Bath Gem, Church End Goat's Milk & Titanic Plum Porter. Ciders fetched from the cellar were Weston's Old Rosie & Rosie's Pig Rhubarb. A CAMRA discount is offered.

Half timbered and much photographed survivor of the notorious bombing raid, including a more-modern extension housing a performance space. Unsurprisingly it has something of a touristy feel but is still quite a nice pub. Ales on pump were HPA, Bath Gem and Titanic Plum Porter, with a couple of Rosie's ciders also. Live music Saturdays.
