An unpromising exterior to this pub which features in the Camra guide to the real heritage pubs of the Midlands for its little-changed interior. The young woman who runs it was touchingly pleased to know that her pub was in the book, and gave me a blow by blow account of her daughter's birth, which was only relevant because she was born on the premises, and only embarassing because her daughter was standing next to us during the telling of the tale. This could have been a rough estate pub, and my impression was that it is not because of how it is run. If real ale were available I would heartily recommend the pub, but as it is not, I can only say that it's worth a look in if you're interested in unchanged 1960s pub interiors.

rather desperate and unwelcoming from the outside it is a bsiac corner local serving the local manufactoring area of Highgate. The lounge/bar has seating around the walls and a pool table in the middle. There are various heads and wigs above bar. A locals pub

No real ale, John Smiths on keg.

A rather unispiring detached brick block of a pub from the outside

The interior is a small main room, adorned with Birmigham City memorabilia and pictures (which has been toned down over the last couple of years). The decor is white and wood panel, with a pool table and Sky TV. There has been a bit of a refurb; seats being re-covered, but the carpet is a bit of a health hazard. Service is generally OK, the clientele mixed. It, like the Bull Ring Tavern, is a spit and sawdust place, but maybe not quite so friendly. I dont feel intimidated or anything, but only pop in on an irregular basis

Beer; all tap stuff, with a decent Banks's MILD - served from a Banks's Dark MILD tap - indeed, that was on the first time i visited.

The Lamp Tavern around the corner is the best pub in the immediate vicinity, this one is more for the footy crowd
