Strongers . left this review about Sir Charles Napier

With the window blinds shut I thought the Sir Charles Napier was closed, and then peering through the slats into the empty bar I actually noted that the pub was closed. Thankfully the location of the next pub on my crawl meant I had to walk around the corner of the pub where I spied an open door, through which a handful of locals were sat under ceiling fans to try and get some respite from the scorching sun. This rear bar is L-shaped with a nice solid central L-shaped stool lined serving counter that supports standard keg. Seating runs around the exterior walls and there’re a couple of televisions that were airing Wimbledon tennis via BBC with the sound on. I think it would be a bit strong to call the service I received as polite, but I wasn’t made to feel unwelcome in what is very much a local’s boozer. Note cash is preferred and there is a minimum £5 spend on cards.

Despite the grand name and traditional appearance, this turns out to be fairly basic 'L'-shaped bar, with a mix of furniture and plain decor and a notional Irish theme. No real ale, and even the keg M&B Mild proved to be a mirage, so (inevitably) it had to be John Smiths (£2.60).

Quite large back street local with lounge area and bar, basic but tidy. No draught bitter/mild, only cans, apparently there is no demand. Very much a locals pub.
