Painted in yellow and green, Clearys is a large Irish music pub with a flagstone front where seating runs along the front wall before an L-shaped serving counter that supports standard and premium keg options. There were Kronenbourg beer mats on the bar and on all the tables, so I decided to have a pint, but it was off, so I ended up with half a Carlsberg that was served by the polite barmaid. Towards the rear the flagstone becomes epoxy coated wooden flooring with open plan seating that is faced by a stage on the left-hand wall. Out the back in the astroturf garden are some picnic tables and a projector screen that I imagine was in place for World Cup games. There was nothing going on during my midweek visit so some background music from the 70s and 80s was playing to the empty pub. It was quiet, but I gleaned from the conversation behind the bar that it gets manic in here at the weekend. I’m not a huge live music fan and this pub is a bit of a walk from the main drag, so I doubt I’ll ever return.

Largish Irish themed just on the edge of Digbeth with the interior as Soup Dragon describes. Called in around noon on a Thursday and seeing there was no cask on ordered a half of Carling which was unavailable due to the landlord cleaning all the pumps. However in all fairness to the landlord let me have a bottle of Bud for the same price of half of Carling.

A bit different, hidden in the Irish Quarter, an L-shaped main room with distressed masonary walls, well looked after, hanging baskets outside.

There is an outdoor area and 'saloon' as well as a separate smoking area with pool table.

A nicley presented back street pub, round the corner from Highgate Park.

No real ale. Keg Brew 11
