A glorious-looking half-timbered building, with a similarly historic interior, including a nice coal fire. Both entrances are labelled Lounge; the front bar is more of a large snug, while the left side extends off through several connected rooms with a pool table round the back. Sadly it felt rather run down, as did the majority of the customers which is perhaps not surprising as the only bitter available was John Smith's keg. Enormous potential, sadly unfulfilled.

A detached black timber framed pub, with small patio, something more likely to be found in Chester than Bilston, where it is a unique building.
The interior is mainly open plan, with several little side areas, one of which has a dart board. The decor is the same timber and white, with some nice wood panel, some carved, as well as having a few fireplace, one in nice stone. Service was Ok, the music has returned more to rock, but is of a decent level, the clientele is mixed, though with perhaps a slightly younger leaning.
Beer; all tap stuff, but with Banks's and Bass MILD, the Bass was decent.
The pub has varied over the last few years, from being a bit of a dump, to being a decent place to visit, despite the lack of real ale. I am pleased to say that i thought it is now in one of its better phases. Still, as a real ale drinker, it is still a place i would just pop into for one, while waiting for the Trumpet to open, but worth a visit.
