Food oriented pub with a pizza oven and Cask Marque accreditation. My visit mid-afternoon on a Tuesday found them dead, but the Dark Star Hophead was fine (NBSS 3.5). This would be a great place to go if you enjoy eating pizza in a furniture store with lounge music on the speakers. Oh yes.

Owned by Oakman Inns this pub has a gastro feel and is a small hotel.The main entrance is off the rear courtyard where there is lots of external benches and tables.You enter into a lounge area with modern furniture and decor,to the right a section with a pizza oven and then a side section with upholstered seating .To the left of the bar are the loos,hotel reception and a set for dining restaurant.The muzak was rather annoying in the lounge but the welcome friendly.Alongside standard kegs two handpumps were drawing Fullers Dark Star APA (clear but tang developed as the pint sank,NBSS 2.5) and Olivers Island.
Having initially warmed to the pub on entrance,I concluded there was no reason to return with better ale houses a mere spit away.

The Globe is a pub and pizza restaurant with a focal open pizza kitchen to the side of the entrance. The central L-shaped bar counter supports premium and craft keg alongside three hand pumps that were drawing London Pride, Oliver’s Island and Seafarers. The friendly barman informed me that this isn’t a Fuller’s pub but Oakham, who do own the pub, have an agreement with them. Out the front is lots of seating that overlooks the superior Eagle Inn micro opposite. I was one of the only customers late evening on a recent Sunday with the diners all long gone. Worth a punt if after pizza and a pint I suppose.
