The Old Thatch Tavern is a Fullers pub with a flagstone front area with bar counter on the left wall that faces some seating to the right. There are four handpumps, but the HSB, Red Fox and London Pride were all off which left only Seafarers as the cask option. Premium keg was also available alongside Stowford Press, Strongbow and Guinness. To the right of the entrance against the front wall is a very ornate fireplace that is decorated with horse brasses and lots of silverware. A wooden floor seating area at the rear is surrounded on the exterior walls by cabinets and shelving that are full of more brass, silver and oddities. It looks a bit like an auction room with weapons, including swords, spears and old rifles nailed to the walls and roof beams. There was a quiz in progress during my recent midweek evening visit so I didn’t stay long, but I still didn’t mind it in here.

A pleasant old high street pub, much as described below, which caters for most people including a very, very loud Antipodean lady who regaled the entire population with tales of her motorcycle. The two bar areas are open plan, but it still manages to feel cosy. Food is basic and reasonably priced. Ales on were Hophead Dark Star, faux-HSB and London Pride, all fairly drinkable. Service was slow, so I wouldn’t come here if in a hurry, but it’s fine for a few pints and a relaxing meal, provided you don’t mind the noise. Worth including on a crawl.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Old Thatch Tavern

Old-style pub, run by Fuller's, with two main rooms; the bar at the front and more of a dining area further back. The courtyard also has a small serving hatch. Fairly traditional interior with a mix of furniture, but not over-fussy decor-wise. Four real ales on handpump: Pride, Seafarers, ESB and the seasonal Summer Perle (£4.00).
