The Two Boats Inn enjoys a nice canalside location with the Cuttle Inn just opposite on the other side of the canal. It's quite a grand building with three storeys overlooking the canal and four storeys overlooking the sunken car park to the rear.
The interior is much more manageable with a lounge/dining room to the left as you enter and a bar to the right. The lounge is comfortably furnished with a piano, a large screen TV above it, a few black and white pictures of canal life on the walls and a moose head. The bar has a dartboard, a pool table, quite a few football and rugby shirts (most signed), along with a jukebox and a games machines. All of the Six Nations flags can be seen on the ceiling, with the exception of Italy, for some reason. Perhaps they have simply never been added since the Five Nations became Six?
Toilets are accessed from the bar and to continue the sporting theme, there is a large picture of Lewis Hamilton on the door of the gents for some reason. Inside the gents, there is a picture of an Arsenal team, perhaps denoting the owners' persuasion.
Canalside tables outdoors are popular on sunny days. The area along the towpath is partly decked. There are additional tables on a grassy area at the car park level.
Two cask ales were available from the 4 handpulls - Ghost Ship & Tribute. A third handpull had a turned Bass clip, whilst the fourth was unclipped. Brewpoint Foghorn was available on keg. Ciders were Stowford Press & Stowford Press Dark Berry. Food smelt good, certainly homecooked, and I also spotted a specials board. In addition, there was a rather tempting cake on the bar.
Kids are allowed in, a quiz night is held and wifi is also provided. There's not too much to shout about for the beer drinker but I quite enjoyed my short visit here.

A very welcoming canal-side pub, flexible and friendly. The barmaid was particularly helpful, while the chef went out of his way to look after us. Food was basic but plentiful and well prepared. Ales were in good condition – Charles Wells’s DNA, Ghost Ship. Landlord, Homepoint Brew Pint and Tribute, all tried and approved. I’d be very happy to come back here any time.

Despite being right on the Grand Union, the Charles Wells signage has always put me off visiting the Two Boats.
This changed after a warm and gruelling day lock working when the pub was right at journey's end and a head around the door revealed some drinkable beer, friendly governor and attractive barmaids.
The crew ensconced themselves to the left in the lounge area, which was very comfortable and where one or two were eating what looked like decent pub grub meals, and set about re-hydrating.
Beers on were Bombardier, Black Sheep, Sharps Atlantic and North Cotswold Shagweaver with both the Atlantic and Shagweaver being deeply and thoroughly sampled with great satisfaction.
Better than expected and worth a look to see what's on as a guest.
