The good news is that the pub has reopened, but it's early days for the new team. The interior is open plan, although split into different sections with a public bar area to the left with it's own bar access and array of regular keg fonts. The main part of the bar is to the front ,while a small seating area to the right has a real fire place with logs piled high. This in turn leads to the restaurant in an modern extension while runs along side the towpath of the Oxford Canal offering views of passing boat traffic.
Although the bar supports three handpumps only one was operational serving Wadsworth 6X ,an uninspiring choice and fully priced at £3.40. The internal decor was really very dull and the furniture consisting of sofas and black and white leather upright chairs with pine tables and a lot of light pine wall coverings which seemed out of place in what is an old building. The pub doesn't have any great atmosphere and the mindless muzak didn't help.Only a handful of people were in ,and it's a tricky walk along the verge of the A425 which might deter villagers from using it as a local. The canal was also quiet and this may explain why a notice on the door said that the pub in closed on Monday,Tuesday and Wednesday although this may be only during the winter.
Food is served in the restaurant until 9pm,but menus were not on display in the rest of the pub so no idea on what is being offered.
Probably more of a summertime pub, hopefully the new tenants can keep going until then, but the lack of atmosphere and a disappointing real ale option will not tempt another visit from me.
