Called in around 1-30pm on a Wednesday and my initial thoughts was that the place was short of a little TLC and trying to weigh up the gender of the bar person. However everything fell into insignificance when I spotted the 10 interesting cask beers on show on the bar and even more so when I was told they were all £2 a pint.
After about an hour of indulgence all my plans for the rest of the day had gone out of the window including my trip to Atherstone which seeing I had missed my train has now been put on the back burner.
The cask beers I tried were spot on and in particularly Cotleigh's Darkwing and The Milltown's brewing Black Jack Chocolate Porter.

One of the locals down the town in a previous pub advised us not to visit this one, as their ales are hit and miss and the quality is generally poor. Well all as I can say is, don't listen to strangers! I was slightly dubious on arrival, but it turned out all the ales we went for were in top class condition. I went for the Abbeydale Revelation, which was in top form. Other ales tried, Downton Towering Maori, Sperrin Golden Bounty and Bond Street Brewery Crown Jules,
The clientele was mixed with a couple of bikers and punks drinking at the bar and this added to my interest, as they were friendly and chatty. The heavily pierced barmaid with turquoise hair also knew her ales. The pub is also a 30 second walk to the train station.

This is a large red brick building that looks like it may have originally been the Station Hotel for Nuneaton. Inside it's a long single room with wooden floors and the bar at the back. To the left there is a small raised area surrounded by some brickwork. Live music is advertised for Saturday Night. There weren't too many in on my Friday Lunchtime visit despite the advertised beers at £1.99 a pint through January making it cheaper than both Nuneaton Spoons.
This time the split was six beers and four ciders. The beers were Slater's Rye IPA, Cathedral Heights Asylum Black IPA, Mordue Workie Ticket, Milestone Honey Porter, Cottage Norman Conquest and Cryptic Round One Stout which had just gone off. I went for the Black IPA and the Honey Porter both in excellent condition.
I thought this was a good pub and would happily return unless the Saturday Night music was on.
