Beautiful location, next to the Church and on high ground looking over Warwickshire. The beer garden has exceptional views.
A bit of an oddity. Its a dining pub - every table set with napkins, glasses and a faux candle lighting. Yet it does open at 11am, with meals starting at midday.
This delighted me, as I'd fully expected my curtailed walk (HS2 blocking footpaths and offering no alternatives) to bring me here too early at 11:10am for any sort of reward.
Three Purity beers - Gold, Mad Goose and a chosen Ubu. Slightly too cold, slightly short measure but better than I could have hoped for as the first pour of the day.

What a difference a day makes. Called in for a drink early Sunday lunchtime in sheeting rain to be told, quite unapologetically, that all the tables were reserved but we could stand by the bar. There were all of four punters in and I suspect many of the tables were to remain unused for an hour or more.
We've driven by this "pub" hundreds of times but never got round to visiting it despite its mystifying presence in the GBG. We'll drive on by next time too.

Idyllically located in the Warwickshire countryside. Dating from the 16th century, the multi-level interior has been modernized (tastefully) and is aimed primarily at diners but retains enough to keep a casual drinker happy. Could have done without M People’s Greatest Hits on the stereo though. The undoubted star of the show is the large grassed garden which has breath-taking views over the valley, I could have spent all afternoon here. GBG 2015 -listed, there were four pumps with three ales (GK IPA, Wychwood Gold and the local Slaughterhouse Bitter) plus Thatcher’s Heritage cider. The Salughterhouse was in very good shape. If you’re in the area, this one is a must – location, location, location…
