This is a detached pub and eatery, with patio area. It looks Georgian, but was certainly a pub in the later Victorian period when it, the church and the monor house lay cheek-by-jowl, with little else around. The pun may have been extended into neighbouring buildings by the mid-20th cent. The interior has a couple of rooms, both sort of loungey and foody, but equally, you can have a drink and not feel out of place. The more dining area is in yellow and pale green wood, with an extended area in red and cream wood panel that has a brick fireplace. The ceiling is white and there is a grey carpet. The walls have prints, plates and old photos, while some bottles and jugs are dotted about. The other room is in red and white, with some patterned wallpaper, with a laminate floor. There is an impressive fireplace that has a sofa area around it. There is a fish tank, some brasses and a dart board that requires the moving of furniture to play. The TV wasn't on and the background music soft. The food was very good value for a lunchtime. Service was friendly, and it was very busy, mainly with diners. Beer; usual tap stuff with Hobgoblin, Bass (decent) and Mancetter Holy Water (decent - and some goes to the church fund!) on handpull. A nice country pub that retains a period feel, yet is modern enough for those that prefer that - no barn. Worth dropping in.
