Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Fitzgeralds

Has quite a narrow frontage compared with many of the other imposing Grey Street premises, but it stretches back quite a long way on three slightly different levels. Very nicely decorated in a restrained Art Deco style (if that's not a contradiction). I found five of the six handpumps in use, offering beers from Wensleydale, Allendale, Ossett and three Brothers as well as Hooves from Rigg & Furrow (£4.90).

a grand city centre conversion pub done very well. I won’t describe the interior as others have but I think it succeeds in capturing the atmosphere of an ornate Victorian pub. the bar had six real ales which were a decent selection, two were from Marble today. Prices range from the low £3s to £5 for a pint. Service was good and the place was pleasantly ticking over. The simple lunch time menus placed on the tables looked like surprisingly good value, eg. £7 for burger and chips. well worth calling in for a relaxing pint.

This is a long rectangular room split into three levels. The interior has been modernised to a high standard. I found it impossible to tell if the place was an original pub or a conversion. I could see no signs of TVs or pool tables which is a plus. There was a music track playing but at such a low volume that I could barely hear it. Perversely people seemed to be mainly drinking at the front but those eating were at the rear where the bar is.
There were six hand pumps which had something called Three Kings True North Brown, Anarchy Blonde Star doubled, Darwin's Evolution, Black Storm Gold and Hop Studio Music. I went for the first one (£3.70) which turned out to be a superb pale hop bomb. I liked this place and found it sedate and relaxing. Their Bacchus venue nearby has a much better beer choice but I preferred my stay here. It's GBG 2018 listed.
