A long, stone built pub on the original A1, split into various areas. The counter is central made of strips of wood offcuts, it houses a few T-bars and solos of national kegs plus three handpumps but only a decent Black Sheep Bitter on, the other two were reversed clips. The left hand end is a cosy panelled area and is set up for dining while the middle has high and low tables. The right hand end is more of a public bar with a pool table, darts board, screen and machine as Graham says. it has its own door and short L shaped counter but part of the same servery. This appears to reflect a history as three separate but conjoined buildings. Decor is modern in style but one wall has a large blown up photo of the pub probably between the wars but partly hidden by a big screen, the photo is repeated on the menus. Standard pub food at a fixed price for mains and as we’re not far from Teesside the infamous Chicken Parmo is on the menu. Separate restaurant / carvery at the back. Constant music but very efficient friendly staff.
