A Richmond Brewery pub in the lower part of Richmond's Market Place. It has a long, narrow room containing the bar itself and a smaller side room down some steps. The latter appeared to contain furniture that wouldn't have looked out of place in a school. Perhaps this was the family room? Although on our visit, it was occupied by some fairly rowdy younger adults!
The pub was fairly busy, with a few people eating and plenty of dogs coming and going. Being a Richmond Brewery pub, it stocked a couple of their ales - Home Front & Gun Dog Bitter. The barmaid seemed fairly clueless about the beers, but did offer a taster. I tried the Home Front, which turned out to be fairly non-descript. Guest beers were Thwaites Wainwright, Black Sheep Best Bitter & Sharp's Doom Bar. One handpull is also reserved for a real cider from Richmond, but this was unavailable, meaning I hadn't located a single real cider in any of my 10 North Yorkshire pubs - very disappointing indeed.
The pub itself is still worth visiting, especially given its central location. It's almost certainly the best of several pubs in the Market Place.

I would agree, this is a great pub and a refreshing find when so many other pubs in the area seem to be offering nothing more adventurous than Black Sheep.
I have been a couple of times and on both occasions had the Greyfriars Stout, which is excellent. On my most recent visit (November 2017) I also tried the Das Boots which was a pleasant wheat beer. As has been mentioned, the Richmond ales are £2.50 a pint (£1.25 a half) making them excellent value.
Service was friendly, there seemed to be a mix of regulars and tourists in.

This place is now run by the local Richmond Brewery. It's still much as described five years ago consisting of a long narrow room that opens out a bit at the back. It suffers from the Curse of Sky Sports with a highly obtrusive front screen showing something or other with the sound off. Obviously nobody was watching it. The screen at the rear was turned off.
There are now six hand pumps which had one unused, Richmond Greyfriars Stout & Das Boots, Black Sheep Bitter, Marstons Wainwright and a cider from the Richmond brewery. I went for the two Richmond beers which were excellent and great value at £2.50. I also tried their cider which was also very good but more expensive.
This pub was voted pub of the season by the local CAMRA branch for Summer/Autumn 2016 and yet failed to make it into the 2018 GBG. This seems odd to me, I thought it was a good pub.
