Venerable old place, uphill from the town centre whichever route you choose and handily located on the North Downs Way. It's a popular pub and takes reservations, so you might want to check availability if you're intent on visiting at a popular time. Fortunately, we found ourselves between lunchtime and evening, so a table was found.
3 ales on the bar, of which I tested Crafty's Hop Tipple and Hogs Back TEA - both in good nick. We also tested the menu and were glad we checked the size of the pizzas before ordering - the things are huge, though they're happy to bag up left-overs for you to take away.
There's various nooks and crannies inside, and friendly staff, so well worth the trek out.

Fantastic old fashioned pub, the place to come to get away from the usual suspects of drinking places in town. This is the place to be, great beer and food.

GREAT ale, SUPERB home-made pizzas, NO Juke box, NO TV, NO Fruit Machines, Friendly staff, Warm welcome - what more could you want?
