It looks a lot better in anonymous' photo from 2004 as now some bright spark has decided to stick a cheap looking gazebo in the front garden area, hiding the middle section of what is clearly an old and interesting building. Inside there are several different areas, the main bar area has a very low beamed ceiling and a flagstone floor, whereas the other areas are carpeted. As suggested by the name the "Inglenook Room" has a huge fireplace. The pub is very food-centric with most areas being set up for diners rather than drinkers and the staff wear those black uniforms. Food looks to be priced according to the pockets of this exceptionally well-heeled area too, with steak and ale pie at £11.95 and a steak at £18.95. They also do pan-fried venison loin....is there another way to fry something besides in a pan?
Interior decor includes old photos of the pub and locality and a number of Guinness adverts and mirrors in the Inglenook Room.
Plenty of outdoor seating is available, good job too as I don't appreciate sharing my pint with a set table, but what do they do in the colder months?
Three handpumps, two on serving Surrey Hills Shere Drop..as good as always.. and Ringwood Best Bitter. No clip on the third.
I understand that these rural pubs have to evolve to survive but to me there needs to be a balance between diners' and drinkers' areas otherwise the pub just alienates the person just looking for a couple of drinks.
