A curious little survivor marking the boundary between the residential area and the high rise office blocks, which provide many of the clientele. It has a surprisingly cosy feel, heavy on the decorations with lots of photos and oil lamp-style light fittings, but with a couple of sports screens as well. There is a patio area in the front. Just Doom Bar and London Pride on handpump, but the condition of the latter was good.

A street corner pub not too far from the stations in Croydon. Although the landlady is Irish,this is in no way an Irish pub apart for some wall mounted signs for Bushmills and other Irish libations.
It's tidy and smart with a wooden floored section from the entrance to the bar,and a carpeted area at the side with a very long banquette in light brown leather.There are three flatscreens for sport and horse racing but on mute while the muzak was playing at a sensible volume.The service was friendly and very efficient.
The drapes in the windows add a bit of class,the furniture is modern and comfortable and there is a decked area at the front with benches and some awnings.
The food menu is available noon til 9pm and has mains around £12,Jackets £8 and Lite bites around £7.Cocktails from a menu marked Whelans,which is the small pubco. which runs this pub.Some of their pubs are "Irish" but the Bedford is branded as Premium.
Just two real ales in Young's Original and Black Sheep Bitter (good nick,NBSS 4) and I noticed a Neck Oil keg tap along with Guiness and other mainstream kegs.
A community boozer and surprisingly upbeat for the back streets of Croydon.

Quite a traditional back street Irish pub. 3 real ale taps 2 on during my visit.
